Ophthalmic surgery involves treatment of the eyes. For certain breeds, this may be required for breeding certification. Special equipment, such as an ophthalmoscope is used to look at the eye. A special dye may also be used to check for corneal damage. While some eye problems can be treated through medication, certain conditions will require ophthalmic surgery. Eye surgery that we provide includes:
- Entropion surgery (prevents damage from eyelashes that point inward)
- Ectropion surgery to fix lower lids that point outwards
- Eyelid tumour removal
- Enucleation (removal) of the eye due to cancer cases or severe glaucoma
- Cherry eye surgery – corrects a protruding third eyelid
- Corneal ulcers (ulcers on the eye surface) repair
Should specialised surgery be required we can refer you to an ophthalmic specialist. We may also refer you for vision testing, cataract removal and eye ultrasounds if needed.
