APPOINTMENTS
Appointments are essential at Superior pet care to ensure that there is sufficient time to groom your dog before the next dog arrives. Please arrive as close to your appointment time as possible. If you need to bring your dog in early or are running late please give us a courtesy call.
Cancellations
Due to the demand for grooming time, it is essential that 24 hours notice is given prior to a cancellation. This gives the clients on my waiting list a chance to be slotted in at short notice. Please note that a 50% cancellation fee will apply if you fail to give notice or if you do not show for your appointment.
Hints to help your groom go smoothly
- Cash, Cheque, Mastercard and Visa payments are accepted
- Please ensure that your dog is FLEA FREE prior to the grooming. This will reduce the possibility of transfer of fleas to clean dogs within the salon. A dog with fleas may be refused grooming service. If your dog does have fleas, please call Glenhaven Vets for treatment options.
- Please let us know if your dog is likely to be scared or aggressive whilst in the salon. That way we can adapt our approach towards the dog appropriately, decreasing our chances of further upsetting the dog and being bitten. Bruising from dog bites often means days off work!
Life is hairy enough, why grrom my dog?
A matted coat not only looks ugly, but it is very uncomfortable for a dog. Mats pinch and pull at the skin encouraging the dog to chew at its coat in an attempt to de matt the hair. A lack of brushing, the dog’s environment, the weather and fleas can cause the coat to matt.
If your dog’s coat becomes wet and you forget to brush and dry it, the tangles can become so bad that the dog will need to be entirely clipped. Not so nice…especially in winter!
To prevent matting, brushing and combing at least twice a week is essential. A dog is never too young to have a good groom. It is no use waiting until the dog is one year old to start a dog’s grooming regime. The dog will be very frightened and very strong at that age. A puppy should be introduced to the brush at about 3 weeks of age, using a soft brush the coat should be gently brushed for a short time – slowly increasing the duration so the puppy learns patience and trusts you when you hit a tangle.
Grooming stimulates the natural oils in your dog’s skin and conditions the coat naturally. It enables you to get rid of the dirt and grime he accumulates just by being a dog!
Tip top tips
- Use a brush and comb which best suits the coat type. As with all grooming products, quality counts. Some cheaper brushes can have sharp bristles that can scratch your dog’s skin.
- Try to comb out any knots before you bath your dog as knots can often get worse as you shampoo and towel dry. A good detangler can be used after a bath or in between times to aid in knot removal and prevention.
- Always use a dog specific shampoo and conditioner – human shampoo does not have the correct pH balance and can cause skin and coat problems.
- Dilute your shampoo and always rinse thoroughly. Shampoo that is not rinsed from the coat can cause skin irritations.
Grooming is much harder and hairier than you think! Please do not hesitate to call us!
Please remember, we do not offer a mobile service and we cannot cater for dogs over 10kg.
Thank you.
